Lunch stop above Kops lake

Last day of our short break to Galtür. Light snow falling this morning and a little breezy so we had a lazy start, did some admin and then decided we were being wimps so headed off for a ski up to Kops lake.

It was not as cold as we thought and the climb up to the ski area was very pleasant. Came to a mountain restaurant and decided to pop in for a couple of coffees, also tempted by an excellent apple strudel loaded with cream and vanilla custard (latter for me!). By now the sun was peeking through the clouds so we continued on our way past the lake and up to a summer cafe. This provided a perfect sheltered spot to have some tea, dried fruit and dram of whiskey watching alpine skiers on the slopes the far side of the reservoir. Very nice, very quiet slopes.

Headed back the way we came, including a stop in the mountain bar for a beer. It is carnival time today in Germany and the bar staff had taken this to heart dressing up, one as a crocodile – which Mike mistook for a frog! Some friendly banter ensued. Bit interesting snow ploughing across downhill ski slopes. Thankfully it was not busy and so did not feel we would be clattered into. We made it across the area safely and lucked out as a groomer machine had just finished grooming the track we planned on skiing down. Great to have first tracks on soft corduroy!

Lovely last day and we lucked out with the weather.
