We do not normally celebrate Valentines Day, however this year decided to make an exception as it was forecast to rain in Nendaz tomorrow so we planned a last minute overnight trip up to Obergoms for a couple of days XC beasting. This follows on from XC day yesterday. Will be due a rest day soon (I hope)!
The trip up here was very smooth so we arrived a tad earlier than expected. The sun had not risen above the mountains framing the valley so it was …. cold. Not unsurprisingly no one was out and about. Decided to go to the sports shop to buy some more socks to pass some time, good idea as there was a sale on and we also received free passes for the 2 days!
The sun had come out by now (10 ish) so after a coffee and cake (no need to hurry) we kitted up and headed off from Geschinen to Oberwald. Round trip of about 20km. Beautiful day. Had lunch at the 19th hole (Golf Club). On our way back saw a XC skier in an adapted wheelchair. As Mike said that would be very hard work. Good for him getting out.
Excellent coffee at our starting cafe (Elmars) before heading back to our hotel (Pension Drei Tannen) where we also stayed last year. Happy to be back.
The snowstorm came through much earlier than we expected and the car was already covered when we got up the next morning. Decided it would not be much fun in a mild blizzard, especially as I did not have waterproof trousers and would have got drenched. Decided to call it quits and Mike heroically drove all the way back home in a snowstorm. Shame as that afternoon the snow turned to rain round Nendaz
