Beautiful day, clear blue skies, no wind but cold to start. Perfect for X-C. Got our day passes in Munster and had a coffee at the Post Hotel. Decided to start from Geschinen (1,351m) and ski up the Goms Valley to make the most of the sunshine.
Quite a lot of skaters were out, fewer classic skiers. The 3 track system allowed for easy overtaking. Needless to say as we were on our shorter metal edged touring skis it was mostly being overtaken.
From Geschinen we skiied through Ulrichen and Obergesteln to Urgerwald (1,368m) where the blue trail ends. All the cafes were shut (Sunday) but fortunately there was a small very nice supermarket next to Pische Sport where we picked up a picnic. Sat on a bench having our picnic looking down the valley under the warm glow of a glorious sun
Distance one way 9.8km and gentle uphill. Took 2 hours up and Mike one hour down!!
I decided to take the free train back, due to heel hot spots, but stupidly managed to go the wrong way and ended up in Realp, where I had a coffee and looked at the view until the train returned to go back the way I had come! Very nice coffee. Lucky to have a sympathetic conductor who didn’t fine me!
Mike beasted it back, and I met him at Post Hotel in Munster supping a beer and wondering, not unreasonably where I had got to. We decided to stay at the Drei Tannen Pension in Niderwald. Excellent place to stay
